Tom Dautel is the Director of the Division of Economic and Technical Analysis at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  In his current role, Tom leads an interdisciplinary team of economists, engineers, and policy and legal analysts performing policy research and developing and implementing new electricity market policies.  Tom has managed or led Commission landmark policy initiatives related to wholesale electric market design, grid technologies and software, generator interconnection, variable energy resources, transmission open access, electric system reliability/resilience, PURPA, and international electricity policy cooperation, among others.  Previously, Tom held engineering positions with the electric power consulting firm Sargent & Lundy and the public safety testing organization Underwriters Laboratories. Tom has undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering and economics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University, respectively, and a master’s degree in economics from George Mason University.
